While tooth wear was present, it had largely affected back teeth, with many lost over the years and others worn and decayed. Eating was impacted, resulting in compromised health. Digital Planning For Implants to Replace Back Teeth
Removal of failing and broken back teeth, and placement of implants to restore a bite. The final design (bottom image) shows a complete set of top teeth reflecting implant supported bridges. Our patient still had great bone for implants. In the absence of adequate bone we look at other solutions, such as bone grafting with implants, or partial dentures.
Tooth Loss Creates Bite Collapse & Extra Load on Front Teeth
Tooth wear often leads to a bite collapse. Teeth become structurally compromised due to bite forces. Teeth grow down into gaps, changing their normal position in the bite. Acid erosion plays a part, particularly if reflux and stomach acid affect back teeth, and they can break in time or develop sensitivity. In frustration, teeth are removed leaving more gaps and a collapsing bite. Chewing efficiency is affected markedly. Teeth become more yellow and front teeth chip and break as all the chewing transfers to these teeth.
Digital Planning & Design to Place Implant Crowns & Bridges
Careful planning and design allowed us to open the bite and provide support with implant crowns and bridges. Chipped front teeth were repaired with cost effective composite bonding and a new healthy bite was re-established. Our patient can now chew anything and has regained the confidence to smile.
